Rives Granade

13 Doors, 2021

Graphite, ink, dyed gesso, and oil on canvas
68 7/8 x 59 1/8 in.
175 x 150 cm

Completed over the course of only a few days, Rives Granade’s 13 Doors (2021) tapped into the artist’s subconscious. Pulling the composition from a painting he made in 2020, Delicata, 13 Doors pulls ink lines over thin layers of pink and blue oil paint and tinted gesso. The title references the number of times Granade engaged the painting in drawing, but it also suggests the open elements that evolved through the layering of abstract forms.
