Though often considered a tropical plant, hibiscus flowers thrive in the warm and sunny Los Angeles climate. Paige Turner-Uribe’s Hibiscus (2024) features the bright flower in an urban neighborhood’s evening light. As ephemeral as the blue hour of twilight, Turner-Uribe notes, “When picked, the flowers usually have ants in them, and they don’t last very long if you try to put them in a vase.”
