Filled with florals, weeping willows, night pollinators, sardines, a corner spiderweb, and flying ghost dogs, Emily Marchand’s reflections of ghost dog (in dreams) (2024) blends reality and surrealism into a nighttime dreamscape. A ghost dog flies around the scene filled with elements of mourning and transition. Coquelicots (red French poppies) mix with pansies and California poppies to serve as symbols of remembrance and the landscape surrounding Marchand’s studio. A faint bridge across the water and waterlilies recalls Monet while also serving a route for the dog to pass. A daisy chain dances across the bridge–a break in the center of the chain interrupts the nostalgic, youthful symbol.
