b chehayeb’s painting top of the world (2024) is inspired by a memory of the young artist imagining what heaven might look like. i grew up in the bible belt, my family has very catholic roots. heaven was a common thing for me to think about, morality was always related to gender expectations. i thought it would be harder for girls to get to heaven. —b chehayeb
