The painting titled burning tongues (2021) draws from b chehayeb’s childhood memories of eating hot sauce with her dad. he double dared me to eat a chip full of salsa. the men used to tell the boys: eating anything spicy would grow hair on your chest. i was so intrigued by courage and the ability to withstand challenges being associated with masculinity. young girls when they rose to occasions such as these, they were only left with burning tongues —b chehayeb
