Nevena Prijić’s paintings explore the concept of the universal body and its ongoing transformation. While the works have a futuristic aesthetic, their central reference is rooted in ancient history and inspired by artifacts from the Neolithic Vinca culture of present-day Serbia––where the artist was born. Dynamic and enigmatic brushstrokes blend abstraction with figuration, blurring the boundaries between the two and inviting reflection on humans’ reshaping of our relationship with nature and technology. Prijić embeds biomorphic forms to construct evolving and adaptive bodies pulled into forward-moving evolution.

Prijić (b. 1985, Belgrade, Serbia) earned her MFA and BFA from Academy of Fine Arts at The University of Novi Sad in Serbia. Her work has been exhibited widely, including at M+B in Los Angeles, CA; Bozomag in Pasadena, CA: Mrs. Gallery in Queens, NY; Novo Connect, The Hole, and Hesse Flatow in New York, NY; Public Gallery in London, United Kingdom; Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France; and numerous exhibition spaces in Belgrade, Serbia. In 2023, Prijic painted a large installation, Voyager, in the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, MA. She has been awarded artists residencies at Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France, and at Outside Project in Florence, Italy. Prijić currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA.
