Fay Ray’s sculptural practice bridges the worlds of industry and intimacy, transforming materials of fabrication into objects of reverence and reflection. Working primarily with aluminum, stainless steel, chain, stone, and found objects, she constructs suspended forms that evoke both monument and relic, balancing the heaviness of metal with the tenderness of gesture. Rooted in the landscapes of the California desert and shaped by a lineage of manual labor, her work channels histories of modernism, mysticism, and craft to explore how material carries memory, inheritance, and devotion. Across her practice, Ray reveals sculpture as a site of transformation, where the industrial becomes sacred and the language of form becomes a meditation on care, endurance, and connection.

Fay Ray (b. 1978, Riverside, CA) received her MFA from Columbia University and her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design. Her work has been widely exhibited, including recently at Museum of Contemporary Art in Tucson, AZ; Nazarian Curcio in Los Angeles, CA; and Fierman Gallery and James in New York, NY.
