Adam Beris’ Kielbasa (2024) was almost called Liverwurst—the alleged meat sliding out of sandwiches in the upper left corner of the painting. An illustration of a lobster, a stack of berries, piles of veggies, a pot containing a doughy countenance, and slot machine-inspired glyphs of grapes, cherries, a banana, and an orange—all float under a proclamation of BIG SAVINGS. Perhaps the most food-focused painting in the exhibition, Beris notes that some of his source materials were local midwestern advertisements, often featuring awkward drawings and the allure of clipping coupons to save money.
