Kristy Moreno’s wall works serve as an ode to her earlier illustrations and paintings. Using a star-shaped slab sourced from cartoons and comics, Moreno carves similar scenes as her sculptural vessels. I GOT YOUR BACK (2023) features two figures – the audience-facing figure displays a bit of a snarl, signaling to the viewer not to mess with the duo. Her futuristic eye make up gives her atittude in contrast to the pastel background. The figure with her back to the audience exhibits “chinga la migra” on her jacket, while the two figures’ earrings show the signature phrases of Moreno’s work – “Mija,” and “Not Yours.”
