Kristy Moreno’s TOMBOY SIRENA FRESA (2023) depicts three femme friends with individualistic styles linking arms round a ceramic vessel. One figure pairs her beehive updo with glam eye makeup, while another sports more of a tomboy style topped with a hat that features the artist’s initials on the brim, pouting and posing as her nameplate earrings proclaim her chosen identity: “Chula.” Long blue hair covers the eyes of the third friend, though her green lipstick can still be seen. Pushing cuteness beyond the commodifiable, Moreno’s protagonists make space for each other to shine while standing in solidarity.
