City Tree with White Tulips, 2025

Acrylic on canvas

20 x 16 in (50.8 x 40.6 cm)

Polly Shindler paints detailed, domestic interior paintings that blur the lines between observation and imagination. Her work explores themes of comfort, solitude, and the constructed nature of personal space, often depicting inviting, color-saturated rooms filled with carefully arranged furniture, artwork, and objects. These spaces feel both familiar and curated, offering glimpses into imagined lives and emotional landscapes. Shindler’s flattened perspectives and vibrant palettes lend a dreamlike quality to her compositions and speak to the quiet intimacy of interior life.

Polly Shindler (b. 1977, New Haven, CT) received an MFA in painting from Pratt Institute in New York and her BA from University of Massachusetts. Her work has been widely exhibited, including at Deanna Evans Projects, The Journal Gallery, Chozick Family Gallery, and BravinLee Projects in New York, NY; Heaven Gallery in Chicago, IL; and Kenise Barnes in Kent, CT. Shindler was awarded the Martha Boschen Porter Grant in 2023, and she has completed artist residencies at Yaddo in Saratoga Springs, NY; Wassaic Project in Wassaic, NY; and DNA in Provincetown, MA. Her work has been featured and reviewed in publications such as The New Yorker, Hyperallergic, W Magazine, Art Spiel, Artsy, and Artnet. Shindler lives and works in the Hudson Valley in Millerton, NY.
