Ochi Gallery is pleased to present works by Elisa Johns and Kimberley Gordon with a project installation by Bella Bronson.  The exhibition will run August 3 – October 1, 2012 at 350 Walnut Avenue.

Both Elisa Johns and Kimberley Gordon draw their inspiration from the people, places and things they believe to be beautiful.  For her latest paintings, Johns creates haunting and mystical figures.  Though she leaves large open spaces within her canvases, her focused and heavy brushstrokes form entire landscapes inspired by the Sierra Mountains.  Taking landscape and women as her muses, Johns weaves the two together with paint, evoking dreamlike, mythical portraits.

Wildfox Couture’s Kimberley Gordon is best known for creating the designs behind her clothing brand along with her partner, Emily Faust.  But her drawings and paintings, often picturing models and actors, transcend fashion sketches.  There is something uniquely innocent about Gordon’s portraits, a fresh portrayal of familiar faces.  They are portraits in the truest sense, infusing mood, character and personality into line, paper and paint.

A muse if often though to have a supernatural power that motivates an artist to go to work.  Both Johns and Gordon’s works are beautiful and magnetic, possessing that sense of the inspired and enchanted.
